The Tassie Government has made it law that all dogs over the age of 6 months, must be micro-chipped by July 2011. So if your dog isn't already, pop down to your local vet and get the tiny, but oh so valuable microchip inserted.
Of course you need to make sure you keep the details current, especially when you move house. It's a great initiative that I hope all the other states follow soon.
It certainly would have made life easier for the shelters finding the homes of lost dogs and cats during the recent floods in Queensland and Victoria.

LUCKY PETS ESCAPE DEATH ROW!
As you know we have a crazy number of dogs and cats waiting in shelters to find homes. It's all so unnecessary, but that's another story!
Just this week, the Agriculture Minister, Peter Walsh announced that the 28 day period for animals being held has been wavered - yipee - that means that animals now have more time to find the perfect home. In fact there is now no time limit for which animals can be held.
All the re homed animals must be micro-chipped, wormed, desexed and vaccinated - a small price to pay for being given a second chance at life.

Dogs allowed back on the Beaches
As at 1st April, dogs are allowed to run freely on all beaches in the City of Port Phillip. With daylight savings ending too, the mornings are perfect for running your pooch along the beaches tireing them out before heading off to work. Oh, don't forget to pick up after them!
For more details go to City of Port Phillip website.
